Dating is hard because it involves putting yourself out there and hoping for the best and if you are a control freak like me then it is even harder.
It becomes even more difficult when talking about a millennial in their 20’s. If there is one thing we complain about more than the current job market and money issues its dating. Some of these issues are self-inflicted and downright annoying.
Here are some of the most annoying things about dating as a 20 something
1. Decoding Texts
I don’t know about you but I truly believe that texting can sometimes distort the message. This is because you cannot account for the tone in which the person you text reads your message.
Trying to figure out what a text means can be very frustrating and in a time when people no longer call but can send hundreds of texts a day, then this is a skill you are expected to have.
That’s why you find people sending screenshots of their conversations just so their friends can help decode the text. Everyone has done this at a certain point in time because you have no idea whether the person is truly interested in seeing you or is just trying to blow you off.
While we are on the subject of texting why don’t people call one another anyways, it’s much easier to communicate that way and nothing gets lost in translation. I believe that if a relationship is supposed to work, you cannot just depend on texting as a means of communication.
2. All The Pretending
Dating nowadays has become so difficult that no one is being themselves; people are trying so hard to be something they are not just to keep someone they like forgetting a relationship should be about acceptance of the other person warts and all.
There are literally so many rules to follow that really make no sense at all. You have to act like you don’t like the person, you can’t reply to a text immediately lest they think you were waiting for it.
Imagine how much easier it would be to just let someone know you like them and then start building your relationship, to me all these games people play when it comes to dating are just a complete waste of time.
3. Trying To Meet People
I use tinder as an example but you can categorize bars and other dating apps on here as well. I mean can’t people meet somewhere other than a club or online? Where do people meet anyways?
You obviously can’t date someone you work with because that brings in a whole new set of problems. It doesn’t matter how social you are meeting people is not as easy as it is portrayed in movies.
4. The Sexism
We all like to think that we are living in an era where every 20 something has a modern way of thinking, but this cannot be further from the truth.
The only thing millennial guys have gotten better at is hiding their sexism. Now this is not a blanket statement and obviously, not all guys are like that but if you look really closely they are there.
Watch such guys get threatened by your career and leave or start acting foolish just because you got a job that pays better than theirs and you will find yourself wondering how you found yourself living in the 18th century.

5. Being Ghosted
Now if you have no idea what ghosting is and have never experienced it then you are a very lucky human being. Ghosting is when someone you were dating just stops talking to you and avoid you at all costs.
Millennial have a tendency of avoiding things they are not comfortable with and as such, instead of someone breaking it off with you, they just avoid you hoping you will get the message and this can be very frustrating.
Relationships need some sort of closure otherwise you will keep looking back wondering what happened.
